Former HP and Tektronix Engineering Executive, Larry Pendergrass, Joins uBeam

September 9, 2016, Los Angeles, CA

Dear uBeam Community:

Since our last update, we’ve been heads down, hustling towards our goal of delivering ultrasonic wireless power to the world. And while we plan to continue to stay quiet until we’re ready to show what we’ve been building, we’re peeking our head out from the lab to announce our newest team member: Larry Pendergrass.

Larry Pendergrass

Larry Pendergrass joins uBeam as Senior Vice President of Engineering. He will drive engineering strategy and execution, and oversee all of uBeam’s engineering teams, including Acoustics, EE/Hardware, Systems, Software, and Advanced Development.

Larry Pendergrass is the former VP of Engineering at Keithley Instruments (a Tektronix company), former Director of Strategy and R&D at Agilent Technologies, and former engineering leader at Hewlett-Packard. Larry brings to uBeam 30 years of engineering leadership experience, spanning a wide range of industries such as semiconductors, materials R&D, test and measurement instruments, wireless devices, and medical products. Larry has an M.S. in Physics from U.C. Davis (with a concentration in optics and solid state physics), and an Executive MBA from Case Western Reserve University.

The uBeam team is composed of thirty brilliant, open-minded, multidisciplinary thinkers who push the boundaries of possibility with grit and determination on a daily basis. Larry is a leader who represents this spirit and will be a great guide on our mission to break new barriers of technical innovation. We asked Larry to share his thoughts:

“Having looked carefully at the technology and the business, I have every confidence that this company will change the way we think of charging our devices. The progress that has been made is tremendous. The skill level in the team is very impressive. And I am confident that my business, engineering, and science experience will support the development and commercialization of this vital new technology.”

We’re also excited to announce a new addition to our Technical Advisory Board, Chaired by Matthew O’Donnell, PhD, a world renowned expert in ultrasound and Dean Emeritus of Engineering at the University of Washington. Paul Chandler, who has grown and shaped the Acoustics team as VP Acoustics, and who has been a major driving force in our recent technical progress and success, will be joining Matt O’Donnell on the Technical Advisory Board. A note from Paul:

“The past seven months at uBeam have been highly rewarding. I have helped to build, train, and enable a first-class team of engineers in the development of uBeam’s radically new ultrasonic technology. This team is in the hands of great leaders and is well positioned for success. I look forward to continuing to contribute to uBeam’s progress with new responsibilities as a Strategic Technical Advisor, and am honored to join Professor O’Donnell in this new role.”

We look forward to sharing more of our progress with you and our plans as they unfold.
