LOS ANGELES, Feb. 4, 2016

We’re very excited to announce today that we’ve added two distinguished experts in acoustics to head uBeam’s engineering.  Paul Chandler, Ph.D., a veteran in ultrasound research and engineering with previous senior leadership in scientific and R&D roles at Acuson, Philips Ultrasound and the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute, has joined the company as Vice President of Acoustics.   Matthew O’Donnell, Ph.D., currently Dean Emeritus of Engineering at the University of Washington, whose experience spans more than 50 patents and 300 publications, has joined uBeam as Chairman of our Technical Advisory Board.

Paul is a veteran in ultrasound research and development and brings over three decades of experience to uBeam where he will oversee the Acoustics and Transducers Engineering team. Most recently, Paul led scientific research and development as founder of Ultrasound Acoustics Technology, an ultrasound consultancy firm. His leadership experience in research and development includes roles in medical ultrasound devices for Philips and building the world’s first second-harmonic medical ultrasound imaging system for Acuson, a technology which formed the cornerstone to numerous products for the company.

Dr. O’Donnell is renowned for his interdisciplinary focus, including research work in the field of ultrasound at institutions such as the University of Notre Dame, the University of Michigan and currently, as Dean Emeritus of engineering at The University of Washington.  As an expert in ultrasound imaging, his research has resulted in more than 300 publications and numerous awards including the Achievement Award from the IEEE-UFFC Society and membership to the National Academy of Engineering.  Previously, Dr. O’Donnell served as part of General Electric’s corporate research team at their research and development center.

In the last 18 months we’ve proved out our technology, built working prototypes of the uBeam system, and grown to a team of nearly 30 insanely talented and experienced people.  With Paul leading the engineering team and Dr. O’Donnell chairing our new technical advisory board, we are stacked with brain power as we enter into the next phase of bringing uBeam to market, and ultimately making wireless power ubiquitous.  Paul and Dr. O’Donnell are the absolute cream of the crop in ultrasound, and are both widely recognized as the foremost experts in their fields.   We couldn’t be more thrilled to have them on this journey with us as we bring this technology to the world.
